Version 1.0 of Blaze, the lightweight 2D rigid body dynamics and physics game engine (what a mouthful), is live. Be sure to read Mason’s announcement in the Blaze forums. He’s ready to take a bit of a break and is looking for good people to join the project.

Ubuntu (and I suppose Debian?) users can now get their D fix from a repository set up at the Tango website. Read more about it, including detailed instructions, over at the CodeBlog.

I should have reported this a few days ago when I first read about it. Now I’m late to the party. Thanks to the efforts of the always impressive team0xf, D, along with Tango, is now being taught at the Uniwersytet Miko?aja Kopernika w Toruniu in Torun, Poland. And as reported in the Tango forums, Learn to Tango With D
is part of the curriculum.
Aside from Walter, I don’t think there are any bigger D evangelists than team0xf. Good work, guys!

Andrei Alexandrescu recently gave a keynote at the ACCU conference about the work of adding functional programming support to D 2.0. The slides are available online in PDF format. If you aren’t quite clear about D’s future or what’s behind the const/invariant stuff, you should find this set of slides informative.

Version 3.96 of the Zeus for Windows IDE has been released. It has built-in support for D syntax highlighting and can be further configured for Phobos/Tango code completion. Zeus is shareware, with a fully functional 45-day trial period. If you decide to buy, it will cost you USD $49.95.
I’ve only recently switched to Code::Blocks for C development after experimenting with Eclipse CDT, but I’m still using Crimson Editor for my D work. I thought about downloading Zeus some time ago, but never bothered with it since there are so many free alternatives. So, I think it’s time I give it a spin. It’s downloading as I type. I’ll let you know if it convinces me to buy.
