There was a glitch with the configuration file - I forgot to change it from my local copy settings to the live version settings. That resulted in a database connection error, of course. Other than that, things seem to have gone okay. The DB updated successfully once I corrected the config. Everything else looks in order. If you have any problems accessing the site, please do tell. If you have any complaints about the new layout, please don’t 
The site update is about to begin. Step one involves uploading the latest version of Wordpress and overwriting the existing files. It will take a few minutes, but should be transparent to anyone visiting the site at the time. I don’t get very many visitors at this time of day, so no biggie.
Step two is where things can get screwy. I’ll be uploading a new theme and switching to it shortly after. I’m tired of looking at the blue and white thing going on now, so the new one has a very different color scheme. It also gives me more screen real estate to do fun things like bombard you with AdSense ads. I’ve already managed to bomb three local copies while toying with the layout. The version I’m uploading has few modifications from the original and is working well locally. My fingers are crossed that it goes smoothly here as well. If not, I’ll revert to the old one.
I’ll make an accompanying ‘Finished’ post when I’m done.
I think I can say with some certainty that the upgrade will happen early next week. I’m out of town this weekend, but when I come back it looks like I will have quite a bit of free time for a few days. I’m planning to make use of it to finally get this upgrade done (assuming I get the layout bugs fixed) and get a little work done on Derelict. Wish me luck
I’m having a few problems with my local copy of the blog (where I test updates and such), but once I get the kinks worked out I’ll upload it all. I won’t bother with a time estimate as that never works out for me anyway. I’ll post a warning right before the update.
Also, I expect I won’t be posting much over the next few days. I’ve got a lot to do this week. I’m keeping my eye on D news when I can though, so if anything jumps out at me I’ll try to squeeze in a few minutes to post it.
I’m holding off on upgrading the site until after the weekend. I don’t have much time today to get it done, then I will be out of town Saturday and Sunday. So I’ll either work on it Sunday evening (if I get back in time and feel like it), or Monday.
